the clans and territory

The Clans and territories of fanfictions made by Esevoire.

SwiftClan

To the west of Clan territory lies SwiftClan. This land is made up of marshy moors, and the cats found here are often lithe and are rumored to have slighty-webbed toes.

MistClan

The southernmost Clan, MistClan resides in a rocky forest along cliffside above a gorge with a roaring river. They're notorious for knowing how to harness fire, though they've sworn to never use it for harm.

RushClan

To the northeast lies RushClan, their territory split into several segments by a relentless river. They're rumored to have developed webbed feet, like SwiftClan, and often have sleek pelts due to a diet that features fish.

NightClan

NightClan lies to the northwest, in a thick pine forest with a massive tree in the center. These cats often have thicker pelts and are more adapted to sneaking quietly through undergrowth.

BlazeClan

To the east, between RushClan and MistClan territory, lies a barren section of stone-littered land where the cats of BlazeClan have learned to survive.

The Sacred Lands + The Seasons

Through their hardships, the Clans' faith in StarClan has remained unwavering—with the exception of MistClan. Over time, their sacred locations have only gotten more revered.

The seasons, on the other hand, are prone to changes and fluctuations. As unpredictable as they can be, the warriors of the forest are always sure to push through it.

SwiftClan

☆ Current Leader: Vinestar
☆ Past Known Leaders: Ivorystar, Fishstar, Brackenstar, Hollystar

☆ The Territory ☆
SwiftClan territory is much more barren than most other Clans, though it isn't quite as demanding as BlazeClan land. It's a moorland with several marshy patches. The wind hits hard, stinging the faces of any who come ill-prepared, while the bogs and marshes stay nasty and cold for most of the seasons. Many invaders and trespassers become stuck in the deep mud found in the marshes, and the cats of SwiftClan are eager to help them out as long as they promise to leave their land immediately.
The bogs are often covered with patches of spike-rush roots, while sedge, gorse, and bracken can be found in dense thickets across the moors. At the southern border with MistClan there's a fallen, partially-rotted tree trunk that's stuck in one of the deeper bogs, and sometimes the younger warriors are known to play on it.

☆ The Camp ☆
Between a few of the taller hills is the SwiftClan camp. Their camp walls are formed so that it simply looks like an unusually thick patch of gorse and other protective plants, while small divets on the hillside make up a few of the dens.
In the center of the camp is a twisted up tree trunk, where the leader often perches to call Clan meetings and make announcements.

☆ Physique and Naming Conventions ☆
Cats from SwiftClan tend to be long-legged and lanky, as they often run along the hillsides. In addition, their paws are rumored to be slightly webbed to help them navigate the marshes safely without risking getting stuck in the mud.
Like the other Clans, SwiftClan often names their young after plants and critters that are found within their borders, such as: Adder–, Apple–, Ash–, Bittern–, Bog–, Bracken–, Breeze–, Cotton–, Cypress–, Elm–, Fog–, Frog–, Furze–, Goose–, Gorse–, Hare–, Ibis–, Juniper–, Marsh–, Meadow–, Mire–, Moss–, Owl–, Plover–, Rabbit–, Sedge–, Snake–, Swamp–, Wind– and more.

☆ Special Notes ☆
The cats of SwiftClan are often seen going for runs across the moorland, just for fun.

MistClan

☆ Current Leader: Beetlestar
☆ Past Known Leaders: Shadestar, Crowstar, Deadeye, Mudstar, Lichenstar
☆ Formerly Known As: The Gorge

☆ The Territory ☆
The forest of MistClan territory is thick, with several rocky outcrops littering the land. At the very south is a gorge above a raging river, which has claimed the lives of many who aren't careful when traveling along the cliffside.
Their notable landmarks consist of a particularly dangerous outcrop of rocks to the east that they call Boulderdrop. Under Deadeye's leadership, when apprentices weren't training in the cave system of their camp, he would send them there to train. They have since been deemed as unsafe for young cats, and only cats of warrior-status and higher are allowed to climb them.
There's also the Flower Field, which is a clearing in the forest to the west of the territory. Many species of flowers can be found here, and due to its location, the sunset often filters perfectly through the trees to cast dreamy lights on the ground. Because of this, young lovers are known to visit the field to frolic and watch the sunset.

☆ The Camp ☆
At the south of the territory, there's a ledge leading down from the edges of the cliffs to a cave. This cave serves as the camp for MistClan cats, who often have a small campfire burning in the center of the main cave. Every den is in a cave that branches off from the main cave except the leader's den.
Near where they keep the campfire and the fresh-kill pile is a massive stone called the Smoothstone. Along with being the leader's perch for announcements, it's hollowed on the inside which serves as the leader's den. The Smoothstone is also stained by pawprint-shaped soot smears, each honoring the death of a cat.

☆ Physique and Naming Conventions ☆
Unlike other Clans, MistClan doesn't tend to favor one build or body type. Rather, their physiques are rather varied due to a history of rogues joining the Clan—along with a great many cats from other Clans joining The Gorge after the Great Rift. They do, however, possess much better nighttime eyesight than the other Clans.
Much like their physiques, MistClans name don't follow a strict pattern or trend, though names relating to cliff- and cave-dwelling flora and fauna are relatively popular. They're also known to take naming inspiration from the campfires they can create: Ash–, Aster–, Bat–, Bloom–, Cinder–, Coal–, Dark–, Deer–, Doe–, Eagle–, Echo–, Ember–, Falcon–, Fire–, Flame–, Flicker–, Hickory–, Ivy–, Jagged–, Leaf–, Lichen–, Moss–, Poppy–, Scorch–, Shade–, Shadow–, Soot–, Smoke–, Spark–, Spider–, Stag–, or Stone–

☆ Special Notes ☆
MistClan is the only Clan to have an overseer, who makes sure that the leader's actions and decisions follow the warrior code. They can also suggest changes or additions to the warrior code and, occasionally, the medicine cat code.
In their Memory of Life ritual, the leader or overseer will mark the Smoothstone after coating their paw in soot from their campfire and will call out the name of their lost comrade, along with their most memorable traits during life.

RushClan

☆ Current Leader: Ripplestar
☆ Past Known Leaders: Kinkstar, Bumblestar, Wolfstar

☆ The Territory ☆
Though the RushClan territory isn't quite as forested as NightClan or MistClan, it's still fairly forested. A large river cuts through the heart of their territory with an island in the center, supplying them with a healthy diet of fish for most of the seasons.
On the western side of the river is a large treebridge that leads from the mainland to the island. On the opposite side, there's a series of slippery stepping stones. Both serve as an entrance and an escape route to the island for any who can't swim, though each are equally precarious to cross.
Not far out of the camp, towards the riverbank is a pond they named "Sunstone Pond" where many warriors and elders like to sun themselves away from the noisier Clanmates. Large birds like herons and egrets can be found nearby, so young apprentices and kits aren't often allowed nearby, even with supervision.
Part of the eastern river forms the upper half of their border with NightClan, and it also leads them to Starfalls.

☆ The Camp ☆
The camp lies on the island, and though it doesn't take up the entire strip of land, most RushClan cats consider the whole island to be a refuge for them. Multiple beds of reeds shelter the camp from sight, and in the center of the camp is a series of sunning stones. The leader's den is wedged beneath these stones.
While most Clans consider their meetings to be a very formal time, the cats of RushClan like to sprawl lazily across the warm stones while their leader addresses them.
There are also a few smaller ponds clustered just outside of the camp, with another one just inside. The kits like to play near them but are only allowed to under strict supervision, and are typically only allowed around the one that's inside the camp.

☆ Physique and Naming Conventions ☆
Because of their fish-based diet, the cats of RushClan tend to have rather sleek and shiny pelts, though they're also fairly lean due to their comfort in swimming in the river. Most have rounder faces and ears, though it isn't uncommon for cats of more slender builds or those with longer tufts of fur to show up in the lineages.
Many names in RushClan tend to follow a water-based trend, such as: Crane–, Creek–, Dew–, Dragonfly–, Duck–, Eel–, Egret–, Fog–, Frog–, Frond–, Gull–, Hail–, Heron–, Ibis–, Ice–, Lake–, Lily–, Loon–, Minnow–, Osprey–, Otter–, Perch–, Pike–, Pool–, Pond–, Puddle–, Rain–, Reed–, Salmon–, Shimmer–, Snail–, Splash–, Stork–, Stream–, Swan–, Tadpole–, Tide–, Trout–, Turtle–, Wave–

☆ Special Notes ☆
Snakes sometimes wander into the camp due to its proximity to the water, and this has resuled in the deaths of cats in the past, including Wolfstar, who lost a life trying (and failing) to save an elder from getting bit.
RushClan medicine cats will also use waterlily roots to help treat swollen limbs. If things aren't tense with other Clans, they'll also trade the root with the other medicine cats for other herbs they don't often find by the river.

NightClan

☆ Current Leader: Falconstar
☆ Past Known Leaders: Harestar, Petalstar, Thistlestar

☆ The Territory ☆
NightClan is thickly forested, and while pine trees are in the majority there are still other trees like oaks and maples. To the east, the river marks part of their border with RushClan. To the western border, just above where it turns to gaze onto SwiftClan territory is a clearing in the forest where Twolegs visit every greenleaf. They often bring untrained dogs with them, who have hurt and even killed cats in the past.
North of the Clan camp is another clearing with a fallen, moss-covered log. A few rose bushes also litter the edges of the clearing, while small mushrooms and flowers dot the earth nearest the log. A short ways west of the camp entrance is the training area, which is a piece of land in the forest with an unusual amount of moss layering the floor.

☆ The Camp ☆
In the center of the forest is an enormous oak tree with sprawling, towering roots. The camp rests right up against the tree, with most dens framed by or even wholly sheltered by the winding roots. Over time the Clan has rolled boulders into the camp, and now several rest around it. The walls of the camp, from the outside, are seen as a fortress of brambles and ivy thickly woven together.
The medicine den is tucked neatly beneath one of the larger roots. There's a curtain of lichen hanging from the part that frames the entrance, while inside there are smaller roots and tendrils hanging from the ceiling where many herbs are hung to dry.
Two boulders sit wedged up against the tree base, and the leader's den is beneatg those. Just next to the top of the boulders is another overhanging root called the Highroot, where the leader will make announcements to their Clan. There's also a smaller, flat stone just outside the nursery, and kits will often play around it—that is, if their mother isn't already sunning on it.

☆ Physique and Naming Conventions ☆
Life in NightClan is, like RushClan, not quite as demanding as the others, so their traits aren't usually so defined. However, it's not uncommon for them to be notably large-pawed and long-furred, or for them to have twigs and small plants stuck in their fur.
The forest they live in is rich in plants as well as animals—they're one of the Clans most familiar with lynxes, coyotes, and bobcats—and anything you'd see in a thick forest could be found in their naming conventions. For example: Coral–, Bell–, Wren–, Warbler–, Thyme–, Deer–, Doe–, Fern–, Pine–, Skunk– Oak–, Holly–, Weasel–, Sorrel–, Dove–, Needle–, Clover–, Kestrel–, Thorn–, Newt–, Robin–, Mint–, and Thistle–

☆ Special Notes ☆
They're one of the few Clans to split up larger words to name their young, such as the coral bell flower being used for two separate names.
NightClan cats are notorious for being stealthier than the rest; in fact, they take so much pride in this that they have some warriors who are also given the title of "shade" and spend most of their time observing their own territory, and their neighbors.

BlazeClan

☆ Current Leader: Lightstar
☆ Past Known Leaders: Heatherstar, Yellowstar, Buzzardstar

☆ The Territory ☆
The land of BlazeClan is mostly barren, aandy, and rocky. There are several patches of grassy plants here and there, along with some sturdier, smaller trees, though they're few and far between. Beyond the eastern border is a dense Twolegplace, and because of this they, along with MistClan, get the most rogue activity.
Near the southeast border is an abandoned Twoleg structure made of rectangular stones. Its been eroded by time, but many cats like to climb onto it to gaze at Silverpelt in the sky.

☆ The Camp ☆
The camp is almost wholly encompassed by skyward-reaching stone formations. Along the tallest of them is a ledge leading upwards to a cave and an overhanging cliff, where the leader sleeps and makes their announcements.
The medicine den is a half-cave. There's a stone in the back with a large crevice in it that's used for storing most herbs. On the outer sides of the stone are small ledges used for shelving prebundled herbs. The ceiling is a thick layer of interwoven brambles and large leaves, and in the far corner there's a similar patch of brambls that filters a small stream into a pool.
Many of their dens are woven together just like above, utilizing the dry shrubbery that dots their land.

☆ Physique and Naming Conventions ☆
The cats of BlazeClan are broad-shouldered and usually rather muscular. They typically have angular faces and tough, calloused paw pads accustomed to their harsh, sandy territory. Cats whose fur blends into the yellowish and greyish colors of the land are used for hunting more often than others, as well.
Due to the dry and degraded nature of the land, there isn't much variety of fauna and flora for them to name their kits after. They've had to become creative while also naming their young after the life that thrives in their sandy territory, for example: Adder–, Ant–, Beetle–, Boulder–, Breeze–, Buzzard–, Canyon–, Dune–, Dusk–, Dust–, Iris–, Light–, Lizard–, Newt–, Pebble–, Rock–, Sage–, Sand–, Sandy–, Scorch–, Snake–, Stone–, Sun–, Sunny–, Valley–, Viper–, Vulture–, Wild–, and occasionally Larch– or Yarrow–. They've also been known to use Bounce–, Fir–, Pounce–, and Talon–, or names of things they hear in stories from traveling loners, like Boar– or Bear–!

☆ Special Notes ☆
After a traveling loner named Blink was introduced to them, the cats of BlazeClan started decorating the rocks of their camp with dyes from flowers and plants and started wearing flowers in their pelts.
Out of all the Clans, they revere the sun the most. They even have a legend unique to them that tells of an ancestor named Sunchaser who sends the sun beyond the horizons every day.

Sacred Lands

☆ Starfalls ☆
North of the territories, if you follow the sound of the river, you'll find Starfalls. It's a clearing with a pond that reflects the light of the moon. There's a series of waterfalls cascading into the pool, creating a starry mist that shrouds the pool and nearby forest. Many cats liken it to tangible starlight.

☆ The Gathering Stones and Tallrock ☆
As a centerpiece to all the territories, there's an almost perfectly circular sandy clearing bordered by overgrown plants. In the center is an ancient cluster of boulders, the tallest of them being dubbed the Tallrock, where the leaders of the five Clans make their announcements.
